A quick word today as we don’t want to forget this VERY important subject.
Taunton is around 10 miles from Aller and might be worth a visit if you have children who love interactive museums, high ropes adventures and … squirrels!
The squirrels of Vivary Park are the possibly tamest you’ll ever come across and it’s not uncommon to find one running up your trouser leg in search of nuts!
What type of nuts are best? Acorns, whole roasted pumpkin seeds and almonds are the healthiest, followed by hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, English walnuts, pecans, pistachios, and peanuts, in that order. Avoid: Cashews, sunflower seeds, dried corn and pine nuts.

The local seagulls are like the mafia and will soon want a slice of the action when they notice you being accosted by squirrels, but they’re a friendly bunch, not like their seaside cousins, so no worries there.
Remember to be patient, slowly get the attention of a squirrel or two and then squat down and wait for them to come to you. Don’t make any sudden movements and you’ll soon be their best buddy!
Bring a football or a kite as there’s plenty of grass at the park plus a cafe at the far end. If you’re lucky there might also be an ice cream van.
There are a few car parks in the town but the biggest is at Cannon Street (TA1 1SW) beside a big church. From there it’s a 10 minute walk to everywhere. Have fun!
