The Tale of the Tin Bath

Share

Our journey with Bath House began amidst unforeseen circumstances – just as we prepared to unveil it to the world of holiday lettings, the inaugural lockdown thwarted our plans. Disheartening as it was, the lull provided an opportunity to meticulously craft our next venture: the transformation of an unused barn into a haven of luxury and romance for two.

As the blueprint materialised in our minds, we procured all necessary materials well in advance to ensure a seamless execution when the time came. From underfloor heating to paint, pallet boards to line some of the walls, floor and wall tiles, engineered oak, and furniture – every detail was accounted for, leaving no room for delays.

The main house was christened Bath House in the 1920s when the porch and fence pillars were constructed from bath stone. Later around 2020, part of the building was split off and extended and Little Bath was born. The next year we had intended to continue the ‘bath’ tradition by naming the latest addition ‘Bath Cabin’. However, the universe had other plans!

During a visit to William Holland of Dorchester in the UK, renowned for their bathing solutions, although we were planning the purchase of a copper slipper bath, we were captivated by a magnificent and rather large tin bath displayed in their showroom. The sales lady invited us to try a dry-run and we both immediately agreed this was definitely THE bath as it would take relaxation to a whole new level!

Thus, the cabin was renamed in honour of this remarkable bath and ‘Tin Bath’ was conceived. Visitors are consistently mesmerised by its grandeur, with some confessing to spending the majority of their stay ensconced within its hot watery depths (we’re guessing they slept in the bed!)
Crafted by British artisans to mature gracefully over time, this bathtub transcends functionality, evolving into an organic masterpiece. Its comfort rivals its aesthetic allure, providing guests with a sanctuary to unwind, rejuvenate, and simply be.
